" Lava Interview "Under the Sunlight Bellydancer"

Canadian performer Lava (based in Vancouver BC) started in a variety of dance styles at a very young age.

Growing up in a small town in the interior of BC, she gravitated towards theatre, and all things rock n roll.

Studying many different styles of dance (jazz, tap, modern, ballet, and more - including Can Can) Lava discovered her flair for music and movement.

As an adult in Vancouver, she soon took up bellydance (Egyptian Cabaret), and not long after that, found Fat Chance Belly Dance - ATS.

With no other Fat Chance addicts in the Vancouver area at the time, Lava took classes and workshops whenever possible, and practiced on her own, until she started a group of her own, which later (2004) developed into her now Tribal Fusion Dance Company - Sisters of Alchemy.

Since then, she also studied more dance forms such as Classical Indian dances - Bharatanatyam and Odissi. Plus, continuing her studies in various yogas (including Gary Kraftsow's viniyoga)

Lava has taught bellydance for over 10 years, and nationally and internationally since 2007.

Lava produces her dance company "Sisters of Alchemy", which she has developed (SOA)'s style into its "rockin-lockin", "smooth-groove", "grounded-beauty" & "Kick up Your Heels-nonstop-Rock n Roll ride"!

She also produces her Tribal dance nights "Sisters of Alchemy's Tribal Soiree" - Lava's Student Dance night & Tribal Mixer!, and SOA's full length show "Dark Arts & Parlour Tricks". (Lava is currently producing new works for "Dark Arts & Parlour Tricks" - 2011 version)

In addition to her dance career, Lava is also working on her clothing/costume design project "Sideshow Frock n Rollers", and working towards producing her own music.

As performer, choreographer, instructor and musician, Lava is devoted to tribal style. Grateful for the many opportunities and friendships it has brought into her life, she will continue to contribute to the world of tribal bellydance for as long as she possibly can.
